The Constitution of 1988 establishes Brazil as a federal republic with 26 states and one federal district (the capital city, Brasilia). The National Congress, formed by the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, is the body on which the legislative power at the federal level resides.
The President, currently Jair Messias Bolsonaro, is elected every four years by universal suffrage and holds simultaneously the Head of State and Government, since Brazil is a country under a presidential regime, which also gives him broad powers.
Regarding to the economic conjuncture, Brazil has a Gross Domestic Product of 2.02 trillion dollars, the reason why it is one of the largest world economies. In addition, despite moderately, it continues to grow year after year after the hard crisis that the country suffered. Furthermore, the inflation, one of the main persistent economic concerns in the whole South America, has been kept below the objective set by the country’s central bank (3.8% vs. 4.5%).
With regard to the diplomatic relations with Spain, both countries have always enjoyed good bilateral relations. Moreover, with around 133.000 people, Brazil is the third South American country with more Spaniards. In addition, some agreements have been signed between both countries in order to promote political and commercial relations, it’s important to mention that Brazil is the country in the whole Latin America that receives more Spanish exports.
The Hon. Mr. Fernando García Casas, Ambassador of Spain to the Republic of Brazil, is going to talk about the current situation and the relations of Brazil with Spain, commercially and diplomatically.
