International Classroom: Talk on Australia

30 Mar 2016

Presentation:

Located in the southern hemisphere, Australia is the world’s smallest continent. It has become a very attractive country for its market. It maintains good trade and diplomatic relations with Spain, which have been strengthened over time, due to the growth experienced by both countries, especially before the crisis. At this session, we will discuss these relations with H.E. Mr Carlos Sánchez de Boado, Ambassador of Spain to Australia since 2011.

Ambassador Sanchez de Boado holds a degree in law as well as a diploma in international studies from the Diplomatic School in Madrid. He has been Consul General in Boston and Montevideo. He began to work as an ambassador in the 1980s and was the first ambassador to head the Spanish mission in Namibia.

Content:

In recent years, major Spanish multinationals have shown increasing interest in the tenders published by the Australian federal government, which they have often won. Thus, the relations between the two countries are growing. For example, in 2010, the presence of Spanish consumer and industrial goods in the Australian market grew 30%, making Australia Spain’s 26th largest client. In this session, AmbassadorSánchez de Boado will offer an overview of the political and economic situation in Australia and discuss its current diplomatic and economic relations with Spain and how they are pursued.
