Why do I choose a career in Sustainable Development?
The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), unanimously approved at its General Assembly in September 2015, are a milestone because, for the first time in its history, all the states of the world share the same project, based on five pillars: Peace, People, Planet, Prosperity and Partnership.
The 2030 Agenda establishes common criteria to address global problems, such as the crisis caused by COVID-19. Societies determine their future with the solutions they adopt at critical moments, and history teaches us that it is possible to progress from a crisis situation.
We appeal to the same principles that inspire the SDGs to solve the health crisis. Similarly, the lessons and many of the innovations, both technological and social, necessary to overcome the pandemic will help us achieve the SDGs.
The Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development (awarded by the University of Barcelona) aims to equip students with a thorough understanding of the 2030 Agenda and, especially, to help the various stakeholders responsible for implementing it. To this end, the programme takes an interdisciplinary approach intended to integrate and weight the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
Moreover, this Master will also address the global crisis, health, and diplomatic caused by COVID-19, addressing the impact of the pandemic in the different areas of analysis to facilitate students’ understanding of the consequences of this crisis and the measures that are being adopted to deal with it.
